Hi all, my first image here on BPN and it's not even a bird..

Late May I have been camping in the Eastern Sierras near Bridgeport. Awesome. Tons of chipmunks, but at that point I did not know how hard it is to ID the little critters. Even the guide books are not agreeing with each other (I have Kaufman Mammals of North US and Lone Pine Squirrels of the West). I've only been in the US for just over a year, so I am building up my knowledge in Nature, but chipmunks are hard, even with decent images. So if you have grounded reasons to know which species this is, I'd be very interested.

Now I think I narrowed the options down to TWO species: Long-eared or Lodgepole.

I won't reason why here to keep your opinion unbiased. We can discuss about it.

Besides, I hope you enjoy the image as well. It is taken with a 5D2 and a 500/4 with a 1.4.. Iso 400 f/9 1/160s, on tripod, full frame... come to think of it, I might have used a very slight fill flash..

Oh wait, if someone can also point out the tree, that would also be greatly appreciated. I don't have a tree guide book yet.

Cheers

Peter

Sorry cant help with ID(s) but I like the image. You captured sharp detail and a nice OOF BG. Perhaps a tad less space on the left.
