Digging through some old receipts tonight I found one for my EF 500L f/4 bought from BH for US$5489 with shipping US$175 to Australia.

Today's cost would is $US6140 and shipping US$240.20

We though our gear back then was expensive!

Actually it may be a better buy now. Using cost of living adjustments those 2004 dollars were worth more than the 2010 price back in 2008, even more now. Not too mention US dollars have decline quite a bit relative to those Aussie bucks over than time period so even a better deal for you. Either way, the six years of opportunity to use the lens are worth way more than the price change.

Me and a fellow employee who is also a photographer, joke all the time that the lenses have out performed our 401(k). We should have bought lenses, kept them unopened and now sell them.

I can beat that...try a Lexar 1 GB CF card for $700.00!

A few days on and a good dig around my accounts with various camera houses in the States the cost of shipping is the one thing that sticks out, compared again to 6 years ago shipping costs to Australia are astronomical.

My EF 500 f/4.0 back then was US$175, today's same service will cost US$386!

Have to admit though for US$80 my Lowepro AW 600 II was sent 1:15pm from New York last Thursday 22nd and arrived at my front door Monday just gone 26th at 10:21am.
