You know that it is hot when you start processing winter images. :) Last year I photographed this skittish bird lying on ice and he got very close. I still remember that it was so cold that I had trouble turning the key in the ignition afterward. :)

Looks like you were laying in the snow -- nice low angle -- and I like the background color

Love the sharpness and pose. Must have been pretty bright because you were at f13 and still got 1/640s.

Axel:

Superb exposure here, to maintain detail in the whites without blocking the shadows. Sharp too. It is interesting, that when I looked at the thumbnail, I thought he was setting on white sand.

Cheers

Must have been darn cold because its claws aren't going into that ice even a millimeter. Great detail and thanks for sharing a bird I've never seen.

Thanks, Fabs! You might get to see a few Snow Buntings if it stays this warm and I process some more because I feel the urge to see ice and snow. :)

Great shot of a cool species. Love the light and detail here. How did you attract the bird?

Thanks, Krijn! A local birder left some seeds in this area to attract the birds. The ground was frozen and the Longspurs, Larks and Snow Buntings took advantage of the free lunch.
