Since they have such big eyes, I was happy to get one looking like this with half closed lids. Got this with the last bit of light before the sun dipped below the mountains. 40D, 500/4, f5.6, 1/2000s, ISO 400, -1/3 EC, handheld from car, small crop from right.

A totally gorgeous shot....you really had the sun on your side that evening. Great pose and unique half-closed eyes. The praire looks fantastic and fades to a wonderful bokeh. I truly love this one, Steve, and don't think I didn't notice right away that you dusted off the ole 500!:) ....not that you couldn't have made the shot with the DO.

Agree with the quality of this image. Love the tonal range, just superb. Like the pose and the half closed eyes give quite a bit more character to the animal. Even the breeze blowing the coat has come up well. Excellent.

Good detail with great light Steve. For me, I just find the HA rather awkward, sorry.

Hey Steve, the light and warm colours puts this over the top. Did you walk into him, as he looks like he's just stood up from a nap.;) Good placement in the frame, and Im glad you left the surrounding grass as is. I would really like to see your part of the country.

Thanks for the look and comment Stuart. I wish I had the skills to sneak up on one of these but they usually bolt off across the prairie as soon as you stop to look at them. She does look like she just woke up but she was just grazing along with the rest of the herd.
