Well, finally made it to Brian Piccolo Park to check out the owls.
I found at least 4 burrows with residents. Might be more.
Sun was coming up fast and it shows in the pics particularly in
the eye shadows.

It was still fun in spite of the long drive!

Techs: Nikon D40X (back up camera), f/5.6, 1/1000sec, ISO 200, FL 300mm, Matrix, AP.

C/C welcomed and appreciated.

Hi Oscar, Good low angle with head on view. The chest area appears a bit soft but it could be due to the image posting small and is difficult for me to tell. I would have offset the owl a bit more taking it out of the center.

You are right Dave, the chest area is soft....could it have been my aperture? I looked back at the shoot and realized that I should have shot the owls at f/8 or so....

Great stare! Agree with Dave's comments about softness and centered image. Maybe a higher ISO and smaller aperture would have helped. I need to get down there to see these guys.

Hi Oscar. I think even shot wide open the chest should be looking different?

Aperture wise its good to stop down as long as you can stay low and take the bg out of play. ...... Do try to go after them early/late does make a difference.

Hi Oscar - agree with the above comments - quality of light will make a big difference.
Like the low shooting angle and those eyes!!
