A trip to Bonaventure Island (Québec, Canada) last week provided ample opportunity to fill up those storage cards. High overcast cloud cover produced ideal lighting conditions. With over 60,000 pair of Northern Gannets flying about it was a challenge to find a bird to isolate and follow. One of the rituals for these birds is to bring bundles of vegetation to the awaiting mate at the nest. Some bring in so much of a load that it covers their entire face. This one carried a modest load.

All c&c welcome. Happy 4th to all in the U.S.!

I would love to go there sometime and great that you got lucky with the light. Pose, light and BG look very good and the nesting material really adds to it. If it were mine, I would try to lighten the eye a bit more.

Love the framing, the soft light, and the BKGR is killer beautiful. Is it sky or water??

The eye could be lightened a bit.

It's water Arthur. I will try the eye-lightening suggestion. Thanks.

We had a great weekend didn't we Dan!

This is a classic pose and I like the uncluttered look. I agree that all it needs is some selective lightening of the face and eye region.

Remember, we're going next year again!
