Nice interaction. I guess the 2nd chick behind went hungry on that time?
How long before the chicks can fly?

Troy, they should be flying by the end of the summer. Impressive sight, with the lighter colors, trying to skim...

Lovely interaction captured beautifully!! A slightly higer shooting angle could have helped reduce the somewhat distracting oof FG.

I know, but this was the only way to get the clean BG without more skimmers on it. Plus, the lower you are, the more comfortable the birds feel. A photographer standing seems like a big threat to them.
Thanks!

Fabs - An awesome shot to kick off a new theme. Color, light, detail and composition all add up to a winner. I wish I could remember to jump up to f/8 when I have a little extra light. The extra depth really helped. Bokeh nice too.

I didn't say or mean you had to stand up, just 20cm or so higher could do the trick IMO. The birds couldn't even notice the difference in your position.

Ofer, you missed the answer.
There were dozens of birds that would have come into my background going higher. I,d rather not used the clone stamp that much :)
It is not easy to figue out the possibilities unless you are there.

In that case, how about this repost with only half of the oof FG which I find quite distracting in this otherwise fantastic image?

Ah, the elusive four-winged Skimmer chick. :) The walking pose and wide-open bill makes this one for me.

Fabs, I liked the low angle....I always do. Very lively image with the catchlight, open beak, the raised foot...beautifully done.

This is such a sweet image Fabs. I like the interaction and low angle.
