Daniel, what settings did you use? This is one of the "cleanest" fireworks images I've seen!

Daniel, i'm wanting to try this as well. Can you throw us a bone, with some starting guidelines... i'm thinking tripod, low iso, shutter release cord, your recipe for success would be most welcome!:D

Hello Don,
Use a wide angle lense - 18mm or less
I use a tripod and shutter release cable
manual bulb setting
f-9 You don't need alot of DOF and you will loose some of the fine detail at f-22 without a long exposure
iso 200-400
prefocus and leave on manual
I will leave the shutter open long enough to catch the explosion and falloff. Usually 5-8 seconds
pay attention to the brightness of the display . Whites require less time than red or blue.
try to catch one series at a time. Usually there are a half a dozen or less explosions to a series
Pay attention to the wind direction because smoke can ruin the shoot. Don't be downwind.
Chimp the first couple of frames to verify focus then concentrate on the show.

I'm going to try a few from miles away, on my 6th story balcony, using the 500mm f/4L and, maybe, the 1.4x. Has anyone else tried that?

I photographed last 4th of july from 2 miles away and the 200 worked out well.

I'm thinking FAU, .25 mile at the most 70-200mm F 2.8, or should i use the 10-22mm??

I would use a focal length that would give you enough of a border as not to clip an image. The image I posted was only half the original size so you can crop if needed
If you have two cameras you can do both. I would bet the 70-200 will work but use your best judgement.Too late to do anything after the show starts and all that money explodes.I have a feeling displays will be shorter this year. I look forward to seeing a photo!
