I'm new here! I've been into photography for around 4 years now, and want to start taking it more seriously and trying to learn more!

Please be sure to post your technical details, and only one image per post. If you make an adjustment to the originally posted image, you can repost in the same thread, but not two different shots.

This is a very attractive bird, well exposed and sharp. Nice pose. Just from personal taste, I would prefer it not to have so much in the way of out of focus foreground elements. Not always easy to achieve.

Welcome and ditto Randy's comments. You did a good job of choosing a fairly clean perspective and of pushing the shutter button when the head angle was pleasing.

By way of technical details;
This was taken with a Canon 30D and a Sigma 150-500 DG lens
It was shot at ISO640 at 229mm at F6.3 and 1/800s.


Yes, the bird is captive, it's rather tricky to get something that looks "natural" and also uncluttered.

Thanks for the info, Nathan. You did well. You might try adding 2 points of Blacks to the Blacks and the Neutrals in Selective Color.

Hi Arthur,
Just been trying to make the changed you suggested.
I'm using Lightroom v2 and can't find the neutrals.
Any suggestions?

Hi Craig, I am not sure if Lightroom has a Selective Color adjustment. It likely does not. Many folks who organize and convert in Lightroom use Photoshop to further optimize their images.
