Captured this Slender Mongoose whilst he was on patrol around his termite mound one late afternoon
in the Moremi GR- Botswana Sept '09
D3 500VR 1/500s f/4.8@ISO200 Cropped to vertical with some shadow work on his right side face, no lower room left on his virtual tail.

You have nice detail in the mongoose's hair, showing the patterning and colour well. I like the crisp shadow detail on the termite mound, adds to the composition. You did well lifting the rhs of the mongoose and showing the eye detail, animal has good eye contact with the viewer. Very nice.

Hi Marc

A nice environment shot with good colour & detail and as Hilary has said, you have done well in opening up the shadow side. Not a great lover of square crops, but you could try cropping where the BG meets the mound on the lhs, however I like it as it is. Nice one. :)

Excellent image Marc !! ... both form the tech and PS point !! lots of detail and handled the light well !!! Agree on cropping some from the top don't need that much up there and would make the animal larger in frame !!! .. crop wise I don't pay much attention to how it ends up just to taste ... square wise shot so much 2 1/4 I'm sort of bias to the square :)

Not a fan of square crops in nature photography either Steve, which is why I didn't attempt cropping out the LH corner BG, although it did cross my mind.;)
