This is from yesterday during a brief shower. ISO 1000 1/125 f/9 7D 500 w/1.4x Pocket Wizard.

It reminds of children impatiently waiting in the porch to get out and play :)
The rain adds a lot to the negative space. Unusual and good looking image, with soft tight, very sharp too.
I'll Pm you about a question I have. Say hi to your lovely wife :)

I like the eye contact, composition, BG and the rain really adds to the image. The BG is a bit noisy but this is not unexpected at the ISO you needed.

Wow, this image really tells a story ! I love the comp, as the empty, rainy space brings emotion, and one can sense the kestrel's longing.

Beautifully done !

Great image! I love what 1/125 does for rain, just enough blur, but not too much. This is a special capture in that it is a bit different from the norm, congrats on that. I personally would boost the saturation, but that is just personal preference. Could use bit of NR on the BG, but overall, really like the comp, details are sharp too. Nice balance with the fill flash (I assume that is what the PW was used for?) Has a lot of emotion...Well Done!

Beautiful image Steve. The chick staring out of the nest hole really is a sweet shot. The rain adds so much to this-very well done.:) Just some NR as noted.

Exquisite composition and execution. The nest tree is loverly on its own.

Steve - A unique and wonderful shot and Artie is right about the nest tree; its a real beauty. The rain really makes all that bokeh work, as Fabs said. Personally, I don't see any noise worth messing with so that 7D did a great job at ISO 1000.

It is indeed a striking shot, and one of the most photogenic trees i've seen in a while.
love the rain drops, as mentioned they really add to the BG.

Sitting comfy in the nest - and I like the space. I also like how you have placed the nest in your comp.
