One of my favorite butterfly/flower combos. It's too bad that butterflies don't nectar on these coneflowers much until they're wide open and usually a bit beat up or chewed on.

You nailed that butterfly, Ken! Wow, what an awesome portrait of such an interesting bf! You're right - the flower is a bit beat up but it really does help keep the focus on the insect because of it's contrast. You might try adding a slight touch of deeper color to the leaves if you want to try but I like it as presented as well.

Ken, wonderful clarity and great side view of this beauty! I don't mind the droopy flower as that is often what we see in nature. excellent background too.

Hey Ken,
While I agree with Jules on a bit more color in the coneflower.....I like the fact it is beat up!.......makes the stunning BF the star....which it is! Sweet BG too!

Ken, a Really nice butterfly and flower! It's true that the flower is past prime for the reasons Julie mentionned - a solution is to spray a sugar solution on a perfect flower - and "they will come."
Nice position, great colors, and good comp!

Others have said it all. What a beautiful butterfly. I like how the rust-red in the wings match the color in the coneflower. Beautiful composition, color and BG. Well done! I like the subtle flash, that isn't obvious in image itself. I keep many flowers past their prime for the very reason that insects still keep coming to them!
