These guys are very common in summer here in Nova Scotia, but like all warblers, they don't often sit still out in the open - so I felt good about "capturing" this one recently. D300, 300 f/4 AF-S + 1.7TC. Fill-flash. Minor color and sharpening adjustments in LR and PSE6.

Focus Distance: 11.9m

Richard,

Beautiful bird and nice setting on an interesting perch and clean blue BG.

I suggest a crop from the right. Even though this has the bird looking out of the frame, the most interesting part of the perch is behind him so I say include it.

The yellow on the bird looks to be lacking detail. Perhaps this is how they look but sometimes over saturation of color can mask detail. Try desaturating the yellow and see what happens.

Head turn is just right.

You did a good job, catching a hyperactive little subject. Nice pose and detail. I was excited to see one of these birds, last spring during migration on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Guess it was heading back up your way. Sure wish we had them, here in Florida!
