You probably need an "Other" option.

I usually use Power Desk Pro.

I think "Photo Mechanic" is very fast. (Saw Fabs using it).

I don't use any software. I copy the files from the high-speed card reader onto my Mac. Never found anything faster.

Same here, Photo Mechanic. I used to just copy and paste from the card to the hard disk but Photo Mechanic has a fabulous "Ingest" facility which allows keywording, file name manipulations (with variables!), and all sorts of other things that end up saving you time in the end.

Juan, if you are PC then it has to be Breeze browser, if you are Mac then Photo Mechanic.

Once the files are on the computer, I use LR2 to do all the tagging and organizing as well as marking files for deletion from the hard drive.

Connect camera to computer, open CF folder, select all, cut and paste to a new folder I created on the hard drive. Open that in Bridge. regards~Bill

I'm with Kerry. I never understood why it's necessary to have software do it for you. I just pop the card in the reader and cut/paste them to my folder for sorting.

One reason is if you want to add notes or copyright information to EXIF (e.x.job name:copyright info)for a series of files, some cameras let you do that in camera, but it's hard to enter long strings using camera interface. you can do batch rename too during import. you can set bridge to automatically create sub folder based on data/etc during import, helps a lot when you come back from a weekend shoot with 5K photos!!!

Agree. I always used to copy images to the hard disk from the card by hand but as Arash says, there's a lot you can do re metadata, filenaming etc at the time of import, which saves a lot of potential work later on. For example, I name all my files these days with a datesort field at the front- something like 20100613_9999.cr2. This field is added on import. I also add copyright info at the like.

Light Room. I love the way I can rename and organize and then find things later with ease. The RAW processor seems great to me as well.

I also use LR3 to import my images, I can prep images before import with metadata. This helps with locating and sorting images later.

Kerry is right. You can spend money on software to do anything. But if you can avoid unnecessary expense, why not do it!:)

Of course, I understand that pros who have many thousands of files that must be marked and cataloged cannot use this simple solution!

I use Bridge, it is set so that as soon as I plug a compact flash card in the PC it creates a folder named date taken in the place I have defined - quick simple fast.:)

I use Aperture 3. I do believe it is almost identical to Lightroom. Anyone have any information on that point?
