This is the only black racer I've seen that held still long enough to be photographed naturally. I have other pictures of racers but I had to capture those snakes and hold them in one hand, usually while getting bitten, while taking the picture with the other hand. Unfortunately he was just watching and wasn't tasting the air so there's no tongue action.

S/he looks curious. The idea of getting bitten by one is unappealing. A 400mm lens is much more to my taste. :)

Certainly an in your face photo.
I also think the snake looks curious or inquisitive. It also looks like a turtle.

I like the dof chosen and nice use of flash.

Hey Ken,
Very inteseting presentation! Bitten you say?.....I definitely won't be going that route! Very sharp where it need to be......may go with toning down the BG a touch....but very nice presentation.

Hi Ken, love those eyes and the scale pattern you captured. nice focus. I would also look to tone down the background especially the LRC. I like snakes and wish I could get a shot like this.
