light was a little better today but it looks like I need to tone down the yellows to keep from blowing them.

I used the 7d this time

Hi Phil For the yellows just select that color and desaturate. Most digital sensors will over cook the reds/yellow.

I like the bird and how its presented, would minimize the perch and some fill flash just to obtain a catch light !!

Hi Phil - gorgeous little bird - Agree with AL'S critique - desaturating the yellows is easy and there are tutorials in the educational resources forum.
Cant wait to see if you can get this guy on a natural perch.
Wouldn't shrpen the eye just a tad.

al nailed it for me. only a hint of fill flash and a more natural perch. great look from the bird and everything else looks great.

Agree with comments stated above! I might run a bit of NR on the backround...
