Read it here (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/27/technology/personaltech/27basics.html?emc=eta1).

Apparently there's a hack out there for powershots that allow them to be modified for, among other things, time lapse photography. Great read.

Ham's are involved in this type of activity throughout the summer. Most Ham's including myself run APRS radios in our mobiles, that allow you to track these flights as they are equiped with similar radios and a gps unit that are beaconing on a frequency of 144.390 in NA, that connects to a digipeater connected to the Internet.
The following link is for some of these flights: http://www.sbszoo.com/bear/

When I allow my APRS radio to beacon from my truck, you may track me as I drive along in the same manner, on your computer at this APRS site: http://www.aprs.fi/
For example, type in the callsign VE6AB and date it back about 6 hours (Tuesday June 1 6:00am MST) and you will see the track that I laid down earlier this morning. If I am moving, you would see me in real time.
These balloon flights can be tracked from your computer in the same manner.
