The detail in the bird and the layered bg look really nice Neil. I wish the HA was slightly more toward you though. The entire image seems some how lengthened oddly from top to bottom. I know Kingbirds are more slim birds but this seems stretched out in some way.

Neil:

What a long slim bird, at first I thought it had been stretched in post.
Nicely exposed, soft light, sharp on the eye, less so on the shoulder.
Engaging pose, pleasant BG.
The multi pronged perch is a bit busy, but it does display the bird well.

I might consider moving the bird ever so slightly to the right in the frame to decenter it a bit more.

Cheers

Randy

PS: Matt and I were typing at the same time, so sorry for the repeats.

Hello Neil,

beautiful bird and awesome BG. i feel a little more NR on the BG would do some good. and yes a little decentering as suggested by Randy.

warm regards

Excellent pose and beautiful BG in soft light. Love the head pose and catch light. Well done.

Love the pose, HA and eye contact here. Looks stretched to me too, don't know how that would happen though. Glad you had luck with this spp., they seem to ignore it or fly further away when I've used audio. If I were to get nit-picky, the tail feathers have a little grain, possibly too much sharpening. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for looking, and the comments.

It didn't get stretched in post but it does seem to be tall and thin compared to most I've seen.

Strong Image, like the pose and expression. Maybe more NR on BG - nice muted background and love the simple comp.
