Taken yesterday, this great little shorebird was very obliging in coming close for a photo.

Canon 400, 300 f4 + 1.4tc, ISO 200, f5.6, 1/1250, Av mode, Ev metering.

Stunning portrait and amazing detail. A touch more space to the left would upgrade IMO.

Mate,
Did you sedate this bird or what? I cannot believe it that you got sooo close. Well done for that alone. The portrait looks fine from where I am. Nice light and sharp as. Whoa! Love it mate!

Doesn't this image just make you want to get out of the bush with all those snakes and Owls and head to the local shorebird patch? ;)

I took this down south on Saturday looking for Hoodies. You would've like the place. 4 WBSE's and a Whistling Kite all flying quite low over the sand trying to gain altitude in the morning breeze.

I know mate, got your e-mail. I will join you sometime. Yes, a change is nice, but I just got another lot of shots of an Owlet-nightjar! How can I resist those cuties in favor of shorebirds?

I like the light and soft colours, and the complimentary BG works well.

Very nice, intimate portrait with lots of great detail. Like this one a lot. Do you have one with a tad more DOF.

Super close-up with awesome details!! The square crop works well here IMO. Love the bits of sand on the bill. I do wish you had a better light angle though to light up the forehead, throat, and chest. You could also tone down the whitest whites in LRC.

Just curious Mark. How much of a crop?

Thanks Daniel for commenting.

Akos, this was approx a 30-40% crop.

So that's 30-40% off the original, making it around 60-70% of full frame yes?

No, sorry mate, I got it back to front. It's a 65% crop of the original. 35% of the full frame.
