What's your favorite RAW conversion tool, if use more than one pick all.

CNX2 replicates color better than ACR for me. too bad it's so clunky (slow) because it's a great program. cant wait til they update it. hoping for more speed.

NX2 - only thing that reads Nikon in camera settings.
Its not the greatest piece of software but does give much better results - IMHO

I'm in the "Other" category, using DxO's Optics Pro.

I agree with Lance ... NX2 is the way to go with Nikon NEF files.

Sorry Mike I never thought someone on this site would use JPEG, I think you can still select "other" because the camera is doing the conversion for you ;)

It sure does Lance, no doubt about that. Speed wise it doesn't run well on Macs, the newest 2.2 runs fast on Windows...

Arash

Are you including Lightroom with ACR or is it an other? I can agree they are the same engine but they act differently.

I use ACR primarily now. Until a couple of years ago, I used Nikon Capture for NEFs because ACR did a lousy job of maintaining the brilliance of the reds in Nikon files, especially those from my former workhorse, the D2X in Mode III. ACR is much better now. For Canon, I use ACR for most of my files but occasionally go to DPP if I'm not satisfied with the conversion.

Greetings. LR for previewing/selection (since it coverts for catalog previews), but NX2 is far superior (IMO) for conversion (lousy at DAM though). With my workflow (LR cataloging/previewing, NX2 selected conversions) I'm constantly comparing the two (while LR has improved, it's not improved enough for my tastes for conversion, though I've not tried LR3).

BTW, the NX2 facility to create custom Picture Controls (the curve that is used for conversion) is really quite something (though the ui is a bit clunky). It's worth a look even if just to understand what Picture Controls are doing (uh, it might be just for those who are really into processing... it's hard for me to tell ;) )

Cheers,

-Yamo-

NX2 for me. A bit slow, but does a great conversion for Nikon NEF files.

I found this link after a discussion on another thread. I've been using ACR -> LR3 to catalog my images and then do most PP in CS5/Noiseware Pro. Is there a way to automate the RAW output from DPP directly to LR3 and bypass ACR?

I have up until recently used NX2 for all my conversions, it does a such a good job right out of the gate I find it much faster to make edits to an image to get it where I want. But because it is such a bad piece of programming (crashes and awful UI) I have recently (last week) started playing with Lightroom 3. Not bad but I have a lot to learn before I can make a final conclusion.

NX2 for Nikon files. We Nikon users do it because it is the best - as it is so slow to use. Wish a NX3 were on the horizon.

Agree with Alan, that NX2 is the best for Nikon users, but I mostly find myself going back to ACR.
If only NX2 and it's UI was as quick and user friendly :2eyes2:

NX2 for me for all the reasons already listed. I have found a way around the crashes after about two years of use. I hope they do a native Mac implementation for NX3 and that it is sometime soon though I have no idea when it will come out.
