Coming back from St. Augustine, we stopped to check Viera Wetlands, since it was cloudy. We ran into our friend Luca, who's here from Italy and we spent a nice time together.
Here's one of the catches today, he didn't stay around us too long, I supposed he was afraid we would take his protein meal away
Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
Lens (mm): 840 (600/4 plus 1.4X)
ISO: 1000
Aperture: 10
Shutter: 1/800
hand held leaning on a post.
Comments appreciated

What a moment. SH and EXP perfect. The frog does not look happy. I am confused: was the frog named Luca? Or was the heron named Luca?? It could use a bit more contrast. I am not so sure about it needing a bit of CW rotation....

Luca is a student we had in the Surf and Turf :) He is in the area for a week.
Thanks for your input, I usually go easy on the contrast. I'll post another one with a different frog pose. I think IT was still alive :(

Hi Fabs,
re:

Ah, that is probably why I thought that he was on the menu!

I do not like too much contrast either but this one could use some pop :)

Yikes, looks painful. The soft light, composition and sharpness look great. Contrast looks good on my monitor.

Yes, that is fairly graphic Fabs, also a very cool shot! Great exposure, details and brilliant innards. I'm no frogologist, but if I'm not mistaken, the heron is doing native frogs all across North America a huge favour because I think that is a Bullfrog.
Cheers!

Fabs I like this as posted. By the looks of the poor frog the GBH must have speared him first. Great job handheld.

Oh my 600mm and no tripod? I have trouble with 2-400mm.
I still can't believe they could swallow a meal that size.
Nice shot.
