Coucals have been described as cumbersome non-parasitic cuckoo-relatives. As a group, they are easy to identify as coucals. However, the different species are quite similar, and difficult to identify. This one is relatively easy, though, because of its white brow.
Species: White-browed coucal (Centropus superciliosus)
Location: Tarangire NP, Tanzania
Date: May 2009
Equip: Canon 1D Mlll, Canon 100-400 at 400
Specs: ISO 400, f8, 1/640s, beanbag on vehicle

Beautiful Image this Gurugalay, very similar to our coucal, I like the HA, perch and that tall grass adds well...

A very beautiful setting for this subject. Nice comp. and exposure. Never saw one so TFS.

Well done, Arjit. In Africa these birds are always buried in the bushes. I like the perch and the grasses and the head angle. It looks as if the head could stand a bit of selective sharpening.
