70-300 @ 300 on D300 = 450mm hand-held. ISO 500 f6.3 1/500s. All natural light.

The flower was illuminated by some sunlight shining through among the leaves above. Gave me the idea and further enhanced it in pp.

Comments welcome and appreciated !

Very nice one Desmond. I am very fond to this two colors, it would be nice to see just the yellow flower without any green around.

Desmond, I like the idea here and the flower is illuminated nicely. I might crop a bit tighter if it were mine, but still leaving enough negative space to give it a sense of solitaire.

I'm with Denise on the crop...it feels a bit lost in all that darkness. You might also check your yellows - they feel very saturated to me. You might be able to pull them back just a little and get even more detail to show through.

Love the spotlit effect and agree with the excellent comments above. :)

Thank you for the comments !

I have played with cropping a little bit but decided to leave as is to see how other thought about it.

The color of the flower is not really pure yellow. It's more like orange + yellow...errrr...if that makes sense to you :)

Desmond, I also think a tighter crop would work better. This image would be a good candidate for an Orton treatment, IMHO.

Beautiful detail in this little flower. Nicely positioned in the frame. The surrounding dark is a bit too dark for my taste.
