Somali Ostrich taken at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, 2005.
20D; 75-300@145; f9; 1/400; ISO200

I love the blue necks and legs on these birds, quite different to the normally seen ostrich.

Now that looks like a grumpy old man!:D I like the detail of the neck and head hairs.

Light angle is working against you here and shame the road is intersecting the head.
Nice detail all around, TFS.

Yes to grumpy. Lots of flash and the wide open aperture would have helped here..... There is too much detail in the BKGR. :)

Thanks everyone. Fabs, no road in the background just an unfortunate striation of bush, grazed land and rising hill but agree with the head dissection.
Arthur, I'm thinking that on my next trip I'll have to leave the flash on camera even though it is cumbersome, because there are quite a few photos which would have benefited from some fill. Often I don't feel that I have time to attach it and am always frightened that I'll miss something. Unless the 7D flash would suffice?

Most folks do not realize that flash can do more from you when it is sunny than when it is cloudy... Recently I was playing with the pop-up flash on the 7D and Denise was playing with it on the 40D and we were both amazed at how powerful it was at close range.

Thanks for that reminder about some of the tools we carry with us all the time. I quite agree and must practise with it more before my next trip. So many images are spoilt because of excitement and lack of practise (in my case). BTW, love your 7D guide which is going to be my 'photo bible' for my next trip (given it for my birthday, great present).
