It works! Really very beautiful and shows so well the downward binocular vision of the herons. I see a bit of noise in the neck feathers but it is not obtrusive, and certainly not bad for ISO 1600! Lighting looks very natural.

Works for me too Alfred.... Made me laugh when I opened the thread. It was not until I saw a couple head on shots like this that I realized how the eyes were situated on these birds and the "downward binocular vision" John mentions above. Makes perfect sense though when you watch them hunt!

Very neat Image Alfred!

This is a neat study and I love the intense eyes and colorful bg. But it seems I always obsess over the OOF bill in this type of image. Too bad they won't hold still for the second frame to create a composite image.

The bill almost looks like a nose to me :D Great BG color that matches parts of the neck.

Works all for me. Excellent perspective. ISO1600 is impressive.

Hello Alfred,

It certainly works for me too! When I opened this post and saw your image I could not refrain a big WOW! This is a very impressive photograph if you ask me. It can be quite funny if you look at it as a bird's version of a punk haircut. It can be also very powerful if you concentrate on the eyes. Very nice work.

'till nest time and best,

Philippe.

What a wacky looking bird, I really like it a lot! The feathers on the head are all over the place and the eyes are nice and sharp and colorful. The BG makes this work even better....

These poses are always humourous! What I like are the longer plumes behind the head and the white tuft on the head all flowing to the right :-)
