About 45 seconds of good light this AM , then the cloud bank came in and killed it. Light is a bit flat , but liked this anyway.

Hi Joe, Nice colors on the beak and eye ring and good timing to get him with his beak open. I would probably crop this a little tighter taking some space off the bottom.

I like the pose and nice low shooting angle.
I like a bit off the bottom as well and wonder if that means some has to be added to top.

I took it this way as I like the head and eye in the upper right 1/3. Just my taste.:)
Thanks for the comments.

Joe, I like the open mouth and pose. Agree w/ you regarding the flat light but I do like it anyway. Nice clean comp.

I really like the minimalist feel to this image and even from the thumbnail I noticed the unusual composition but decided that it works for me. Would be very happy to have it in my portforlio.

Like the sharpness and the soft light. I'd have gone for a big crop from the bottom with correspondingly more on the top. What bugs me (and nobody else apparently :)) is the position of the bill against the pattern on the wing and the upper back, especially the upper mandible tangent to the bird's back; that really confuses my brain.

Joe,

Very nice composition on this one. Like the color and detail. Nice open beak and head turn.
Thanks for sharing...
