D3 200f2+TC17EII (340mm) 1/1600 f/5.6 ISO500 Matrix +0.3EV

Slightly warmer WB, mild sharpening, crop

Hardly any post-processing (a rarity for me ;), so the title).

Could use some help on identity.

Thanks for looking, commenting...

Lovely composition, Michael. The bird, the flowers, and the BG all contribute to make this a wonderful, delicate image. You might consider cropping a bit more from the top.

Congrats,

Great image! The background is what makes this an outstanding picture. There is absolutely nothing to distract from the bird. Sometimes I feel the background is almost more important than the subject. Great use of the "rule of thirds".

Hi Michael, agree with above comments. The flower the bird is perched on really makes it for me. Nicely placed with a pleasing neutral backround. I would also take a bit off the top....

Hi Mike....Lots to like here as already noted. I also think cropping some off the top would improve the image by bringing the focus down to the bird more.

Beautiful image, Michael. Great BG and perch. Simple beauty.
I think I wish the string(?) was not in its mouth.
Could this be a Female Lesser Goldfinch? (from looking in Sibley's)

Ditto above comments - bg, bird and perch are really lovely. Peter beat me to the punch - I would guess some variety of Goldfinch female. Would help to see the wing bars, and I'm not real great on the California birds but Lesser seems a good guess. Very nice image, and personally I like the nesting material in the mouth.

Hi Michael - Lovely - agree with the above comments would take a little off the top - nesting material does not bother me.

Good Ha and eye contact and the bG rocks.

Thank you all for the encouraging words... Agree on the crop. And Female Lesser Goldfinch it is (from additional shots with wings). Gotta get me a Sibley's...

Cheers,

-Michael-
