Had a few emails and phone calls with John and Walter of 4th Generation the past few days about the new M-3.6. They are excited about the new updates to their flagship product.
They have told me that the main new features have to do with the tension knobs--both for the base axis (where the Mongoose attaches to your tripod) and the arm axis (where your lens attaches to the arm).
Both knobs are now full 4-nub rubberized knobs instead of a single wing. The friction plates are now smooth for more tension control.
The killer feature is that both knobs will have a locking ring to solidly lock down each axis, for carrying and/or for shooting. The base axis will have 12 locking positions, and the arm axis will have 5 locking positions.
These features should be very nice improvements!
John and Walter say they expect to start shipping the early part of May. Both 4th Generation and Outdoor Photo Gear are taking pre-orders for the M-3.6. As these heads are hand-assembled, they will come to the market as they are built, and pre-orders will get filled before general stock is released.
You can pre-order an M-3.6 from OPG here (http://www.outdoorphotogear.com/store/4th-generation-m-3.6-mongoose-action-head-for-larger-telephoto-lenses_preorder.html), or from 4th Generation here (http://stores.4gdphoto.com/-strse-118/M-dsh-3.6-%7E-Gimbal-Tripod/Detail.bok).
If you want to be notified when the M-3.6 is released for general sale, you can do that here (http://www.outdoorphotogear.com/store/4th-generation-m-3.6-mongoose-action-head-for-larger-telephoto-lenses.html).
That's the latest news!
