SP, this is probably one of those times that when you ready to click the shutter, part of the bird got in the shade.
What is your shutter speed? Like the backlit part.

Challenging lighting conditions here. It isn't easy to make any image work when the head/eye are shaded or in shadows. The full downstroke wing position is good, but the bird angling away is usually less engaging than angling towards us.

I like the colors in the wings where backlit, and hope to see more posts in the future.

SP, I love light like this and think you handled the exposure very well. I'm with Randy regarding the fact that the bird is going away from you, and I wish the bird didn't merge with the tree trunk but overall I think this is a really nice effort.
