The Japanese crane, also known as the red-crowned crane is sacred and seen as a symbol of fidelity, good luck, love and long life. They are the second rarest species of crane, the whooping crane of North America being the rarest. The mating dance is truly amazing!

Another great shot from your trip, Chas.
I like the dense snow and the diagonal line in the BG. Great pose with the cranes.

Hi Charles,
These cranes are very beautiful. I like the setting and exposure. It gives a sense of nature going on despite the elements. It's always been a dream of mine to travel to photograph them some day. Is this on Hokido?

Magnificent composition, oriental in the amount of space around the subject - sort of like Ikebana. The curve of the hill adds to the elements within the frame.

Sublime image! Susan has said it for me - the posture of the birds, the space the curve of the hill. Inspirational!

Love the mood of this one with the falling snow and the dance of the birds. Simple for the eyes and very pleasing, very artistical. Well done.

Stunning in its simplicity and its complexity. Would you have preferred to have been a foot higher or two feet lower?
