Asiatic Lion Male

My first Lion or Mammal Image i've made.
Was so lucky to get such beautiful opportunity to click them in very first trip for mammals.

Nikon D300s
Nikkor 80-400D VR

21,March, 2010, 7:40am
f/10, 1/400s, -0.3EV, ISO 500

Sorry for that techs as it was my first trip i had my camera setup at that ISO though i may have easily able to grab imges at ISO 200 but the temptation over such situation drove over my head and i just clicked images.

may be from next trip i may able to start looking at camera settings :)

C&C welcome

lovely composition, angle and golden light Mital...I assume this was a wild Asiatic lion? in which reserve? you could have stopped down to f8.0 as well as drop the ISO to 320 :)

yes Morkel i could have done that easily but as said i was so excited to see the wild cat such big in so pure golden light i could not resist myself to click images without checking camera.

btw sorry for not writing the location.

This was taken in

Gir Forest National Park, Gujarat, INDIA

In my own State.

Nice light and composition, I like the twinkling in the eye.
I think stopping down to even f5.6 or f4 would have given a nice blur to the already uniform background.

Beautiful cat and love the expression !!! Did make it in gorgeous light, might just add a couple of points of cyan? Seems to keep the natural warm glow but lowers intensity. Would also crop a little top and bottom !! Big Congrats on this one Mital, one Sweet image !!!

You should get excited, first lion and such a rare one, totally acceptable behaviour. You should see the settings I had on my early images.

Nice and sharp but perhaps a little warm, I agree with Al regarding the crop.

Very nice Mital.

Lovely eye contact and catchlights. I can understand your excitement.
When I encounter a new subject, I tend to quickly grab a few images ( record pictures ), just in case the subject moves. Then, I will take a quick check of the settings and optimise accordingly.

Increasing the aperture size would be my suggestion but the BKGR is not that distracting. If I had a magic hand I would have extended it to move the rock by its foot as well !

Mital,
Nice image. Like the light. I don't mind the techs. Slight tweaking of the white balance will work wonders. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Lovely image, Mital! Perhaps, you could darken the bg so that the lion 'pops' out a little more?

Very interesting and wonderful light! Do they differ in any way from our African lions?
