This was taken on my Tanzania tour while we were watching the birth of a few Gnu. Quickly had to whip out my split ND's....2 stacked but offset to get the sky and FG even close! I have a few with a larger herd but felt this bold ray fit the scene somewhat better.
Canon 1D Mark lll with the 100-400mm lens at 120mm at f11 and 1/400 sec and ISO 800 resting on bean bag. 2&3 stop soft edge Singh Ray grad ND's used hand held.
Will be posting 2 of next years tours shortly....PM me if interested.

I like this. I had never come across the use of a ND filters on a 100-400. This works well here. It was nice that you reacted immediately. I wish the gnu were slightly more to the right, just at the spot the ray hits below. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Of course my comment changes the feel of the image, but I would try an s-curve on this to get more drama out of the clouds to go with the higher contrast of the shaft of light.

Nice one here well done. Just some halos on the mountain tops

Hey Roman...very nice image with great feeling.
I do agree that some more contrast in those awesome clouds would be worth trying

Cool effect. You must have been soaked after the rain hit. Wierd halo on the mountain tops.

awesome sight and great instant action by the grad-master :)
love that beam, agree it could use some more drama through contrast and I also see the halos top left...
