Stats: Canon 50D, ISO 800, 500 F/4 + 1.4X, F/9 at 1/250 sec

i don't mind the floating eye. Lovely water, and a good exposure. Some of the blacks in the neck look a bit blocked IMO. You could try lightening them if it doesn't bring out to much noise.

Hi Aidan,
Thanks for your comments. Here is the same shot with some adjustments in the blacks. Done in RAW and then converted to JPG. It's a bit better as it brings out some water droplets on the neck.

I very much like your image. I have tryed to get the exposure right on this bird and have never been as successful as yours. Good work on a beautiful bird.

Thanks for your comment. I have had the same trouble with these guys many times. In this particular occasion I caught him in a small pond in front of a viewing patform where he had no where to escape unless he flew. It was a sunny day but the light hit indirectly so it kept the detail and minimized the shadows.
