These little guys are found throughout South Africa, but especially in the arid Kalahari desert.

This image was taken in the Kalahari Tented Camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in September 2009. They were quite used to human presence and came to grub down on the giant moths that had perished around our camp during the night.

Techs:
Canon 40D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 400mm
f8.0 @ 1/1250 SS @ ISO-400
nearly FF, cropped some off the top

What an eye the pupil is like a goat or sheep, never seen one this close!

I see what you mean about your 100-400.

Nice image. I am tempted to experiment with a closer crop from right, top and very slightly from bottom.

Cheers,

Morkel very unique compositional presentation of this little mammal. The slightly open mouth is a bonus,

I didn't know that it had slit pupils.

Very nice mugshot, Morkel. A bit more sharpening on the teeth and nose, methinks? Got the eye very well!

Looks like he/she got an attitude:) I like the pose showing the teeth as well as the sharpness and eye as mentioned.

Looks like its post the little guys. Good to see the teeth here, and I like the curled pose.

Prefer the second post Morkel , but would like more room on the lhs and less on the rhs.;) That eye is weird:eek:

Repost is better Morkel,

I agree with Steve on additional improvements and I love the pupil. How strange.

It's fascinating and a great expression. Agree about the repost. Would have liked to have you in a hole in the ground for an even better angle :p but this is really fine.
