Fab-ulous. Showing the bird in his/her elements. Lovely way to capture this at low angle. Liked everything about it...light, exp, sharpness, DOF and pose is killer.

Wow, that is killer. The reflection on the body, and the upraised wing make this image!!

Fabs:

Lovely as presented, for all the reasons mentioned above. Of course, I am not partial to reds at all:D

The only adjustment I might make, would be to pull down the mid tones just slightly, as I find it a bit bright for my personal taste.

Cheers

Like the pose, action and sharpness. Really like the wing position and the intensity of the stare toward the water.

Agree with Randy about the mid-tones and the reds look a bit hot to me. If I look at the histogram, they are stretched right to the very high edge.

Very cool, Fabs. I like the action pose with the bird looking intently at the water. The sweet light, the wing arched over the head, and the plumes trailing behind make this one special.

Great position and beautiful light, Fabs. The red and white morp at De Soto North Beach is a treasure.

Is early morning light a Canon thing? :)

Of colurse I'm familiar with early morning light Fabs.

Just noting what my eyes convey to me.

For this bird it is the ideal wing position and I like the HA. The trailing plumes add a nice touch and good structure in the neck feathers.

I can't figure out what created the horizontal lighter band.

That's water reflection, Mike, I get it very often on very still waters.

Thanks everyone

For the ones that think the bird is too light or lacks midtones or has a spiky red channel, think this bird is over a flat body of water reflecting every bit of light back up to him. This is what I saw and this is what I wanted to portray. Of course, I could take artistic license and make him the color I want but this time I decided not to.

Thank you all for you comments, very much appreciated. Just wanted to clarify the thought process and reality behind the image.
