I have several not very great shots of some duck-like birds that I can't find in my Sibley guide.

I'm just beginning with the bird ID side of things and don't know much about finding resources to help.

Is it considered OK to post not-great shots for help with identification? And which forum category would those belong to?

I'm a newbie here so many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Another option would be to register with your local birdlist server. I frequently ask folks there for ID help and they enjoy getting good views of the birds I photograph.

Have you tried www.whatbird.com (http://www.whatbird.com) for North American bird ID? That's usually my first stop.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm trying out the websites and will contact folks in the area where I got the photos. I'm thinking that perhaps these particular birds were duck hybrids.

Funny thing -- I was "just" going to label all the birds I had shot recently. But after the first several coots, the very next ones in the batch were these showstoppers Seems to be the way things go!
