Bare-Throated Tiger Heron

I made this one in Panama in January. I was photographing some orioles in a marsh area at sunset and suddenly this guy flew up in a tree right by me. I couldn't fit him in the frame, so I tried this crop. I like it. Would really like to hear from others if it works or not.

Great light, colours and textures, Brian. I like it as presented but think his may also work by cropping some from the right and adding canvas to the left and a little below to give the bird more space to look into.

I like the last image that you posted - the line of sight from the eye is continued into the corner giving a nice balance to the photo.
The warmth of the light is really nice and I think that this is the element that draws me to the photo. The eye detail is great. Also, you were able to catch the harder textures of the bill and the softer textures of the feathers very well.

Pane#4 works best. Really strong comp....and wonderfully sharp eye and beak. One of these fellas flew across the border into south Texas in Dec. It was a big deal.....first US sighting if I am not mistaken. From whatever photos I have seen, it seems like one cool looking bird.
