Other than one OOF twig in the foreground, this is one of the most interesting Lion portraits I have seen.
Sure that dude got some character in his face.

Wow,

He has had a hard life. It looks like he should have used sunscreen a lot earlier in life!

Great DOF and a very strong facial impact. I like the central composition in this case because of the strong eye contact. Good use of flash as well. Agree with the OOF grass already mentioned.

Good detail & use of flash here on this battle scared warrior Lee, good eye contact also.

I love the look, and the face holds my interest.

I like the intense look on the cat's face. This is one of the most intense lion shots I've seen.

I like the slight angled head pose, and this guy has sure been around.

Thank for your comments folks, he is for sure one the most scared males i have seen, we were lucky enough to find this guy just outside our camp, and to have the honour of watching him mate!

welcome here Lee!!

lovely shot this, old toppie from the looks of his battle scars. where did you find him? like this as is, blades of grass are part of the African bush, especially with lions lying down.

Balule is an awesome camp - we found a leopard in a tree with a kill and hyenas around the base right next to the road 600m from the camp gate one morning in July last year

A wonderful portrait with excellent use of fill flash, the only distraction is that one grass strand.
