Hi There

A question that has crossed my mind in trying to capture sharp shots of birds in flight, what is the general consensus on the settings on the focus points ans shutter release. I Use both a 1D MKIIN & MKIII and i have the focus setup to use the centre point only, and activating focus is by means of the * button on the rear of the camera.

I personally have found i get more shots in focus on the area i am aiming for, if the focus is separated from the shutter button. I believe this to be a pretty standard sort of setup for Sports Photographers.

So if you are shooting birds in flight, is this the way you have your camera setup? or do you have focus on the shutter button and use all of the possible focus points.

The problem i have found using the all point method "ring of fire" is you have no idea what the camera will focus on, and at the moment of taking the picture it snaps to the background or maybe a wing edge rather than say the head or eye.

I would be interested to hear other peoples views on this
