Currently attending a workshop with Alan Murphy in South Texas. Thought I'd post one of the subjects he put me onto this morning. I've worked hard for several years to get close enought to this species for a decent image. Alan showed me some techniques that made it easy. Having a great time; wish you were here. Image full frame.

Camera: EOS 5D Mk II
Lens: 600mm/ f/4

when I saw the thumb I though this had to be an Alan Murphy perch and it was :)

Grest image :)

Sweet image Dean, love the whoel setup you got here and the fish and water drops put this image over the top

I love the action here and the way the water curves around the background and focused on the prey. My only suggestion is that you might try to flip it horizontally to see if that emphasizes the action even more.

Awesome shot. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought "This looks a lot like Alan's work" :-)
Everything is perfect here: background, light, perch, fish and the water drops. A killer shot of this species.
Congratulations!

What ever you paid for the workshop was money well spent if these are the type of images you are coming away with. Just love the arch of water droplets coming of the fish.
I think you should charge Alan and advertising fee after posting this:)

Hey Dean, Good to see you posting. The spray puts this one over the top. You might go a bit lighter with the darker tones. All in all, fantastic.

Wonderful...awesome...love the water drops -- what a great catch! as you say, these birds are very hard to get close to which makes this even more of a special image.

Spectacular!!! This bird is a nemesis. A credit to Alan. Looks like I have to come to one of his soon.

wow!! everything has come together...just as you and Alan had envisioned it I guess. But probably you also not envisioned the arc of drops :-) Cherry on top of the Sundae. The perch can take a small round of sharpening I think.
