Another from one of my Scotland trips - Loch Maree is in the Wester Ross area of Scotland by the west coast area (NW). This particular morning started off very cloudy but the sun broke through and created a very interesting pattern on the water. It lasted maybe ten minutes and was gone. I used a 2 stop split ND filter and polarizer. The foreground on the right side is not my favorite, however moving to the left was not really an option and various crops have not given me what I would have wanted so I left it as is.

Hi Dan, I like the fog and the moody atmosphere it creates. The layered look of the mountains is also appealing.I also like the banding on the water caused by light and shadow. If this were mine I would crop the sky to just below your name....Good comp!

Nicely done. The layered reflections on the water are captured very well. I also like the recceding effect of the mountains and islands. Dave

I like this for all the reasons mentioned, especially the successive layers.

I'm can't decide about the bottom-right foreground mass. Tried two adjustments on that but am not quite convinced that it could be taken out altogether. I'm thinking it needs that anchor, as in version 1, but I'm not entirely sure. Thoughts?

A wonderful image in any case. I envision this one printed big ... REAL big.

David thanks for the suggestions. I tried version 2 but my eye kept getting pulled out of the frame on the right for some reason. I have printed it big and it looks great - I may have played with the comp a bit in that version because it does not look as bulky on the right.

Yep, I was having the same problem. I think you need the dark mass to anchor that corner.
