I have been trying my hand at landscape recently ... at the weekend went walking among the white dunes on the western coast of south africa.. with D3 and 50mm lens only...

the day started overcast , but changed quite quickly as the winds picked up and a storm approached..

Hey Peter,
Wow....all I can say is wow! Originally I wanted to lighten it overall.....so I tried a bunch of tweaks to both the sky and dunes......didn't like any as much as the OP! It lost the mood when I brightened it. An LCE of 20/30/0 was OK and you may want to check it out for yourself...... but very nicely composed and super mood on the B&W conversion. Very nicely done!

The mood, the mood!

The dark tones, the leading lines, and the clouds really make this work.

Hi Peter, I also liked the image very much. Perfect candidate for a B/W conversion with a dark and somber mood. I also played with the image and brought it up a little bit basically to show more contrast and subtle variation in tones.
I could go either way...well done!

Hey Peter,
Dave's re-post shows the added contrast boost nicely. Print it and hang it!

Peter,

Looks great. With the curves in the sand acting as leading lines, the composition is A-plus.

Dave's tonality tweaks add the icing.

Nice work.
