This was at our normal luch area in Ngorongoro Crater. Since the hippos were in the pool near the picnic area we decided to get there one morning early. Hours of waiting for some action with little succes. When I decided to go for the Sigmonster......this one kindly obliged!
Canon 1D Mark lll with the Sigma 300-800 @ 800mm for 1/1600 sec. at f8 and ISO 800. Cropped slightly all around.

Hi Roman,

Good action well caught. Good to see some eye open as well.
I might shave a little off the LHS.

Love the action. Gail and I will soon be in Ngorongoro and hope to do as well. I like the SS you chose to show the water in detail. As mentioned I also like the eye's visibility.

Cool, I guess he wanted to let you know he was still boss even if you were holding a Sigmamonster. Nice action and comp.

Good eye contact Roman, with the gushing water very effective here. Perhaps a touch more USM.

Roman,
Lovely image. I like the open mouth. The water splash is a welcome addition. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Beautiful image Roman. Great timing, exposure looks good as well as the comp.

Hey Roman, the only decent hippo image is one with the open mouth, and you certainly succeeded here. Well timed, and love the gushing water.

Looking good Roman Love the gushing water and clearly seen eye !! I like the space given but will also work fine as a tight crop !!! Sweet image !!!

Really like the open mouth, water pouring over the sides, and the eye contact. Overall image looks a bit smooth to my eye.
