Firmware updates are coded instructions that can be written into the program memory chips of the camera itself. These updates are normally limited in scope, and improve or correct how the camera performs certain functions. They do not change the specifications of the camera, and cannot modify the hardware (lens, CCD chips, sensors or switches). A firmware update cannot make an older model camera equivalent to the model that "just came out."

Scott,

I received this today as well from CPS. I am a bit confused as this firmware number 1.0.6 has already been announced and installed on my cameras.

The only conclusion is that "Canon strikes again" :D Must be related to the new "fix" for the MIII that was disclosed to a few people and nothing more was heard. Canon sure is trying our patience.
