Yet another Zebra I am afraid, but this time more in habitat.

Taken in Karoo National Park, Western Cape, South Africa, 9th December 2009

EOS 1D MkIII

500mm F4 bean-bag

F5.6, ISO 800, 1/640

I like the framing here. Agree with the composition. A narrow aperture would have further strengthened the image. Is this full frame or crop? Do zebra's have natural cuts in their ears? Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

I like the head turn off this one, shows off the beautiful facial striping. Also like his placement in the opening of the bushes. Does this species have longer ears than other zebras?

Good looking zebra Ken !!! Like the habitat very much would only darken corners to draw attention to the center !!

Well done Ken. I like chosen aperture as it blurs both fg and bg nicely. I like the way it is framed with good detail. Al's idea is a good one. TFS

Ken, you have framed the Zebbie nicely, and I like the eye contact. This is sharp, and you have exposed him very well.

Nice use of DOF here Ken, nice comp with good eye contact as well. Would love to have these guys in my files one day.

Very nicely composed Ken. I agree with Al's suggestion and maybe add a little noise reduction to the foliage frame at the same time.

Hey Ken,
Not an easy task getting them in the right environs and I think you handled this very well. Great placement in the frame and I can appreciate the difficulty in this one to turn out as nicely as it did!

Great HA and i really like the environmental feel. Most zebras I have seen were on savana and therefore no bushes. A bit of NR would be good.

I like the feel of him emerging from the bush, the dof looks good to me. Maybe a little nr if anything.

Sorry for the deelay in responding, I did not have access to PC over the weekend

Sabyaschi,

It is about 60% of original.

The cuts in the ears are usually caused by tearing on thorns, the only animal I know of that is deliberately cut for identification purposes is Rhino.

Steve,

You have me stumped as I am in UK with no reference books!

Thanks to everone else for their tips.
