I can give you a link to the Florida State parks site, but have never visited.

It's a spectacular glimpse into old Florida. The area was logged heavily, but its still a mix of habitats including a sanctuary for many rare bromeliads, ferns, and orchids. But it is not for the faint of heart. Depending on water levels you can be on dry ground or up to your waste in water, and you can run into all sorts of interesting creatures...panther, water moccasin, mosquito swarms, etc. You can see some from Janes Scenic Drive through the park, but it really is special when you go off-trail (just don't get lost...it's easier to do than you might think!).

Go about 2 miles up the Gate 10 tram, paradise.
Across the road from Gate 10 is a little area called K-2, it's very cool also.

Anyone up for a trip to the "Strand"? I've heard several folks talk about it, especially at the last Lunch, after the get together. I'm interested if some others are.

Is James Scenic Drive still a public access road? Have not been out there since 1968. Is Gate 10 tram on JSD?

Does the Park service have maps?<O:p

Thanks Robert<O:p

Janes Scenic Drive is open to vehicular traffic. Yes, gate 10 is right along Janes Scenic Drive and has a little parking area. I've never seen a map of the park, but I bet the ranger station in Copeland has something to share (you pass it as you enter the park).

Thanks, I drove out this AM, saw a gate 2 & 12. Lots of fog, interesting but light was a challenge. Mostly just exploring. I hunted this strand before and during the Golden Gates development, late 60’s. JSD was the main logging road (trail). Forestry personnel were there clearing and grading, it is in good condition.
