View Full Version : Canon Pro 9000 vs Pro 9500 Printers

I am considering taking advantage of the rebate Adorama is offering on printers when purchased along with the 40D I will order in a day or so. I am debating the merits of the Pixma Pro 9000 vs the Pixma Pro 9500.

For the past 4 years I have been using a Canon i9900 and have been happy with it. Both new printers use more archival ink. I love the wide gamut of the dye ink and I like the relative speed vs pigment. I do understand the pigment may be ore archival, but the new dye inks are said to be good for 30 years under glass and 100 years in my portfolio books. As a 60 year old this should be enough ;)

I print in bursts. Often I will do many prints in a few weeks and then the printer will sit for a month or so. I have heard that this is not good for pigment printers.

So, with the above in mind I am leaning toward the Pro 9000 dye ink model (which is also significantly cheaper)

Is my thinking off somewhere? Do any of you have additional input?

Thanks,
Ed
