These falls are situated in South Africa's arid Northern Cape. It is where the Orange River plumets over rugged cliffs into a deep gorge. The normal flow of these falls is 50 000 - 75 000 litres per second. The past week it reached 2.9 million litres per second after recent heavy rains in the catchment area. This photo was taken at 1.966 million litres per second as it was a scramble to take some time from work and drive 1 165 km's to reach the spectacle in time. Despite the lower volume the constant spray was still a struggle.

Hi Elmar, first off let me say you framed the composition beautifully. Using the 1/5 sec the water has detail and a nice flow. Appealing warm light on the mountains with just enough sky to have interest. The mist on the bottom only adds drama to the image. The rock on the right side gives you a foreground and a leading line.
I thought the image was a bit dark and had a reddish caste. I adj the contrast, lightened the foreground, added sat to the falls area and used auto color which took out the caste. I'm sure there are many other ways to do this.
Great job on this!!

Thanks Dave, I always appreciate your help!! I like the repost, especially the cast removal. In my excitement I did not pick up on this. Thanks for your assistance. I will spend more time on this.

My own attempt at a repost - followed much of Dave's advice.

Beautiful details in this image. I rather like the original magenta/yellow sunset cast. About all I would do is brighten
along the tops of the falls a little (in curves by pulling in the composite highlight slider and painting that in with
a soft brush).

Elmar,

I would go with Dave's interpretation of the light as both sides of the falls appear to be evenly lite.

I do like the composition a lot with the strong diagonal of the spray, the verticals of the falls and the sunlight mountains. I believe that you could crop more of the sky off and emphasize the falls even more.

Another attempt at a repost . . . . I am comprimising on posting quality, only at 80%, due to size constraints.

Hi Elmar,
I really like the comp here with the RH rocks framing the image nicely. All the flows work very well do as do the distant sunlit peaks. I like the brightening of your final repost but the others all were great advice leading you there! Very nicely done!
