I know the bird is centered, so how would you crop it?
Canon 1DMarkIII
Canon 300mm f/2.8

ISO 500 f/6.3 1/2000

thanks

Nice and sharp and like the mtns in the BG. A crop from the right for sure. And I might experiment with a bit off the top and bottom too. Just my thoughts.

Good sharpness and exposure. This is a challenge to crop because of the background - it would be nice to save all of the mountains in the distance. Here's my take - crop off the bottom to eliminate the 4 diagonal-line shadows as they draw my eye. Then take off about 1.5 inches (as measured on my monitor screen) from the right. :)

I agree, crop off a bunce of bottom, a little top , and a little behind.
Very nice image with great environment.

The crane stands out nicely from the gorgeous background. I like the touch of blue sky at the top and might be tempted to crop some from the right -- would bring the crane a bit more off center

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I really should have gotten off of the center point focus and used the right side focus point. Then I could have kept all of the background. Live and learn.

I agree with the cropping off of the bottom a bit and would like to see the crane not quite so centerd. The sandhill has beautiful lighting and excellent detail and flight pose. Love the up turned wings and great timing. Many thanks for sharing Gary.

Hi Gary: Nice flight shot. Agree that it needs cropped, but doing so then creates a short left side. I added canvas using my content aware scaling trick that works great even on background with diagonals created by things like the mountains. Shaved a little off the bottom as well.

This is a great shot Gary. Having been to Bosque, I know how difficult it is to get such a sharp image with great contrast against the mountain background with the rapidly changing lighting of the late afternoon setting sun.

Keith that's cool. Here's my shot at it.
