I bought Alan Murphy's cd a few weeks ago and tried it out for the 1st time after the snow storm we had here yesterday. There's a lot of useful info in it. This is 2 images stitched together as I was too close to get all 3 birds in a single frame.

40D with 500 f/4 1/400 at f/8 ISO 250 Manual. Spot meter off the snow +1 2/3

When I first looked at this, I thought "This is astounding". After reading that you stitched two images together, I still think, "This is astounding". I'm looking at this on a laptop so the next point might not be appropriate, but if it is possible, I would try to brighten the top bird and the bottom one (rear) a bit. I love the color and the composition.

Looks like you applied what you learnt well, Steve. Light angle looks the biggest challenge here - some fill flash would have been worth a try. Good job on the stitching.

love the composition and colours. to my eye the birds seem a tad underexposed but there's enough detail to brighten it up a little.

Beautiful shot (or shots) just a tad dark as already mentioned above. easy fix and you'll have an amazing shot

I like the perch, BG and the stitching is done well, too. How much did you crop? If not much, I might sharpen the birds a bit more.

Axel - it's not cropped very much. I lightened it and added some more sharpening (10/20/1) that I learned from David Fletcher. I also increased the blue saturation a little. Looks better to me - thanks. The bluebirds ate a lot of the berries before I took this and I didn't have another branch. steve

The repost looks much better, the original looked a bit flat.

Love the repost, nice job on putting the shots together. I think
you should work on adding some gentle catch lights to there eyes
where appropriate.
